A's acquire catcher Heim in deal with Rays

Transaction completes Dec. 11 trade for infielder Wendle

The A's acquired catcher from the Rays on Tuesday as the player to be named in the trade that sent infielder Joey Wendle to Tampa Bay on Dec. 11, the clubs announced.
Heim, 22, batted .260 with nine home runs and 61 RBIs in 93 games split between Class A Bowling Green and Class A Advanced Charlotte in 2017.
Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2013 Draft by the Orioles, Heim is a career .231 hitter with 19 home runs and 123 RBIs in 313 games in the Minor Leagues.
The switch-hitting backstop threw out 44.8 percent of would-be basestealers last season, up from his career average of 38.2 percent.
