Sunday's best: Murphy homers twice for Stockton

June 5th, 2017

Sean Murphy upped his season home run total to seven on Sunday with his second two-homer of the season. The Athletics' No. 14 prospect went deep in each of his first two at-bats of Class A Advanced Stockton's 3-2 win over Lake Elsinore.

Murphy, the A's third-round pick from the 2016 Draft, has caught fire over the past two games, going a combined 5-for-8 with three homers and four RBIs.

"I just want to take it as it comes, not really think anything or expect anything of myself," Murphy told "Goals and expectations, they tend to cloud your head. So it's going up every at-bat with your mind clear, not doing anything different than what I am doing right now."

After going 3-for-4 with a homer on Saturday, Murphy finished Sunday 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBIs.

The 22-year-old is making his full-season debut and got off to a slow start, but has picked it up recently and is hitting .305 through 28 games.

"It was a good day, definitely an all-around team win," Erceg told "I kind of just went back into my Spring Training mentality, just going up there and trying to see the ball as well as I can and put a good swing on it. The results showed today that that process works."
