While Spring Training gets underway in Arizona this week, the A’s appear to be making headway on the unanswered question of where they will be playing home games beyond 2024.

A source confirmed to MLB.com that the A’s will meet with officials from both the city of Oakland and Alameda County on Thursday to discuss a potential extension of their current lease at the Oakland Coliseum, which is set to expire after the ‘24 season.

The meeting, first reported on Tuesday by the San Francisco Chronicle, will include A's team president Dave Kaval and mark the first formal gathering between the three sides since the A’s announced their intention to relocate to a new ballpark in Las Vegas. The move was approved by Major League Baseball last November.

With the proposed new ballpark in Nevada not expected to be ready for play until Opening Day of 2028, the A’s are still searching for a temporary home from 2025-27. The unresolved situation carried over to the baseball side of things this offseason, as A’s general manager David Forst cited the uncertainty as a factor in discussions with free agents on multi-year deals.

Last month, a contingent of A’s officials that included Kaval and team owner John Fisher toured a pair of Minor League ballparks – Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, home of the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate, and Smith’s Ballpark in Salt Lake City, home of the Angels’ Triple-A affiliate – as potential temporary sites.

The A’s will continue to explore both Sacramento and Salt Lake City as options, in addition to their upcoming renewed discussions with Oakland to remain at the Coliseum, which they have called home since 1968.
