Braves Stat of the Day: June 2021

July 2nd, 2021

MLB.com is keeping track of a Stat of the Day for the Braves this season, highlighting a unique, interesting or fun nugget from each game.

June 30: Braves 20, Mets 2 -- Albies' career night
Ozzie Albies homered twice, tallied a career-high five hits and drove in a career-best seven runs. Albies joins Joe Adcock (July 31, 1954) as the only Braves to ever tally five hits, two homers and seven RBIs in a game. Adcock actually had four homers and a double in Milwaukee's 15-7 win over Brooklyn.

June 29: Mets 4, Braves 3 -- Leads hard to keep
With their 4-3 loss to the Mets on Tuesday, the Braves fell to 33-8 when leading after six innings. Their eight losses in these situations match the Phillies for the most in the National League. The Blue Jays have a MLB-worst nine losses in such games. Atlanta went 27-0 in these games last year.

June 27: Braves 4, Reds 0 -- 5th time allowing 2 hits
With their win over the Reds on Sunday, the Braves allowed just two hits. They have now surrendered two hits or less in five games this year. The only teams to do this more frequently in 2021 are the Dodgers, White Sox and Brewers, who all entered Sunday having done so six times.

June 26: Reds 4, Braves 1 -- Three runs or fewer, again
With their loss to the Reds on Saturday, the Braves scored three runs or fewer for the ninth straight game, only mustering an RBI single from Guillermo Heredia. This is their third-longest such streak going back to 2000. The club also did this over 11 consecutive games from Sept. 12-23, 2014, and over 10 straight games from July 22-Aug. 1, 2015.

June 25: Braves 3, Reds 2 -- Braves bash way to history
With Dansby Swanson and Guillermo Heredia hitting solo shots, Atlanta increased its homer total to 107, which ranks second in the National League. That marks the fourth-highest total produced by any Braves team through the first 75 games of a season. The only years the club hit more home runs were 2003 (119), 2019 (115) and 1996 (108).

June 24: Reds 5, Braves 3 -- Loyalty pays off
With his first-inning homer, Freddie Freeman tallied his 899th RBI and 897th career run, all with the Braves. Just two active players in baseball have scored 900 and driven in 900 for a single team. Joey Votto has scored 1,059 and driven in 996 for Cincinnati, while Ryan Zimmerman has scored 951 runs and plated 1,035 for the Nationals.

June 23: Mets 7, Braves 3 -- A different way to score
Atlanta has been one of baseball's most homer-reliant teams this season (the Braves entered the day having scored 49.1 percent of their runs via home runs, which ranked second in the Majors), but found a different way to score. With Ehire Adrianza's RBI single in the sixth inning, the Braves snapped a streak of four games in which their only method of scoring was the long ball. Only the Cubs (June 14-19) have a longer streak of homers-only scoring this season.

June 22: Braves 3, Mets 0 -- Morton's long road to 100
Charlie Morton debuted with the Braves on June 14, 2008, and promptly earned his first MLB win. Against the Mets, he earned win No. 100. But most of his victories in between came elsewhere, as he made stops with the Pirates, Phillies, Astros and Rays. The 37-year-old is the first pitcher to win his first and his 100th game for the same team -- while winning elsewhere in between -- since Dodgers righty Hideo Nomo in 2003.

June 21: Braves 1, Mets 0 (Game 2) -- Acuña is enough ... again
With his fifth inning shot to center field in Atlanta's Game 2 victory in Monday's doubleheader, Ronald Acuña Jr. became the second player in the Modern Era to hit solo shots in 1-0 wins on consecutive days, joining the Giants' Joe Panik, who accomplished the feat on March 29-30, 2018.

June 20: Braves 1, Cardinals 0 (Game 2) -- 100 homers and 70 stolen bases
Ronald Acuña Jr. hit his 100th homer in the Braves' win in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader. According to MLB Stats, he becomes the fifth player to total 100 homers and 70 stolen bases before turning 24. The others are Ken Griffey Jr., Mike Trout, Andruw Jones and Alex Rodriguez.

June 18: Braves 9, Cardinals 1 -- Acuña, on-base machine
With a two-walk, two-hit-by-pitch game vs. St. Louis, Ronald Acuña Jr. extended his MLB-best current on-base streak to 26 games on Friday night. His career-best streak is 32 games, which took place June 19-July 28, 2019.

June 17: Braves 4, Cardinals 0 -- Morton's almost-no-hitter
Charlie Morton carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning and ended up allowing three hits over 7 2/3 innings in the win Thursday night. The 37-year-old hurler became the oldest Braves pitcher to complete at least 7 2/3 scoreless innings since a 39-year-old John Smoltz in 2006.

June 16: Red Sox 10, Braves 8 -- Struggles holding leads
With a second straight 10-8 loss to the Red Sox, the Braves have now lost seven of the 33 games they have led at the end of the sixth inning. They went 27-0 in such games last year and 76-6 in 2019. So, they’ve lost more of these games this year than they did the past two years combined.

June 15: Red Sox 10, Braves 8 -- Atlanta 7-3 when scoring eight or more
With Tuesday night's loss to the Red Sox, the Braves fell to 7-3 when scoring at least eight runs this season. They were 77-5 in such games from 2018-20.

June 13: Braves 6, Marlins 4 -- Acuña on a roll
To lead off the game, Ronald Acuña Jr. hit a single into left to extend his on-base streak to 22 games. This is currently the longest active streak in the Majors and is the third longest off his career. His longest streak came in 2019 when he went on a 32-game run. Acuña is currently hitting .282/.390/.597 with 39 RBIs and 18 homers on the season.

June 12: Marlins 4, Braves 2 -- Freeman's hot bat
Freddie Freeman went 3-for-4 with a home run and two singles. It was his 127th career game with at least three hits, tying Robinson Cano for third most since 2010 behind Jose Altuve (157 entering Saturday) and Miguel Cabrera (135).

June 11: Marlins 4, Braves 3 -- Acuña streaking
In the top of the third inning, Ronald Acuña Jr. hit a double for his 400th career hit. He finished the game with a pair of doubles, one RBI, two runs, and one walk. Since May 18, he has reached base safely in 20 straight games and extended his walk streak to 10 games -- the most since 2014, when Freddie Freeman went for nine straight.

June 10: Phillies 4, Braves 3 (10 innings) -- Acuña eyes century mark
Ronald Acuña Jr. went 0-for-4 in Thursday's 10-inning loss to the Phillies, keeping him at 99 home runs through 369 career games. The players who have reached the 100-homer milestone the quickest are Ryan Howard (324 games), Gary Sánchez (355 games) and Aaron Judge (371 games).

June 9: Phillies 2, Braves 1 -- Ozzie's XBH tally
Ozzie Albies highlighted a three-hit game with a triple in the first inning. The second baseman ranks second in the National League with 32 extra-base hits, trailing only Cincinnati's Nick Castellanos and matching the exact total Albies collected at this same point (through 59 games) in 2018. He stands with Hank Aaron as the only players in franchise history to twice tally at least 32 extra-base hits through the first 60 games of a season.

June 8: Braves 9, Phillies 5 -- MLB's HR leaders
With three home runs in their latest win, the Braves increased their MLB-leading total to 89. That is the second-highest total though 58 games in franchise history. The only team to tally more was the 2020 Braves, who hit 101 homers through the first 58 games. The 2003 club hit 87 through this span.

June 6: Braves 4, Dodgers 2 -- Extra! Extra!
With the RBI double he tallied in the third inning, Ozzie Albies became just the sixth Braves player since 2010 to record an extra-base hit in at least six straight games. Ronald Acuña Jr. did so in eight straight games in 2018, and Freddie Freeman also had a streak of eight games in 2012. Brian McCann had a seven-game streak in 2017. The only players with a six-game streak within this span were Freeman (2017), Chipper Jones (2011) and Troy Glaus (2010).

June 5: Braves 6, Dodgers 4 -- Almonte's pinch-hit homer
Abraham Almonte came off the bench to hit a seventh-inning homer, giving the Braves seven pinch-hit homers, three shy of the Atlanta record (since 1966), which was last tied in 2017. More than a third of the way through the season, the Braves are on pace for 20 pinch-hit homers.

June 4: Dodgers 9, Braves 5 -- Braves allow 9 runs on 4 hits
The Braves surrendered just four hits to the Dodgers. They became just the second team since 1969 to allow at least nine runs on four hits or fewer. The only other team to suffer this fate was the Mariners in a 10-9 loss to the Tigers on April 9, 1996.

June 3: Braves 5, Nationals 1 -- 50-50? How about 500-500
In the bottom of the seventh, Ozzie Albies stepped to the plate and secured his third hit of the game on a RBI double to right field, marking his 500th career hit. The second baseman is hitting .251/.323/.497 with nine homers, 16 doubles and 32 RBIs. Dansby Swanson also recorded his 500th hit with a sixth-inning home run that gave him 10 homers on the season. The last time teammates recorded their 500th career hit in the same game was when Dave Dellucci and Gary Matthews Jr. of the Rangers did it in 2005 against the Yankees, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

June 2: Nationals 5, Braves 3 -- Bullpen losses
With A.J. Minter allowing a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning, the Braves' bullpen is now 7-14. The 14 losses are tied with the MLB-high total the Astros, Orioles and Twins carried into the day. Atlanta's relief corps went 21-9 during last year's 60-game season.

June 1: Nationals 11, Braves 6 -- Big bat, fleet feet
Ronald Acuña Jr. hit his Major League-leading 17th homer and recorded two stolen bases in a loss to the Nationals. He has homered and stolen a base in 12 games dating back to his MLB debut on April 25, 2018. The only players to accomplish this feat more times within this span are the Brewers' Christian Yelich (15) and the Royals' Adalberto Mondesi (13).
