CLEVELAND -- On Aug. 1 against the Red Sox at Fenway Park, Indians center fielder Austin Jackson made what may be considered the "catch of the year" as he leaped on the warning track to rob Boston designated hitter Hanley Ramirez of a home run before flipping over the center-field wall.
While Jackson's catch may have been one of the best catches in the Majors this season, Jackson may have some competition for best catch in all of baseball this year thanks to a Junior Leaguer named Jack Regenye.
Regenye -- who plays center field for Kennett Square (Pa.) -- made a catch on Sunday against Chinese Taipei in the Junior League Baseball World Series that was reminiscent of Jackson's catch in Fenway.
"Yeah, I saw it," Jackson said of Regenye's catch. "I had a buddy text it over to me. Man, that was awesome. That was a full-out catch. Not caring how you land, none of that. That was pretty cool to see."

The play in question came in the top of the fourth inning, when Regenye gave chase to a deep fly ball before making an all-out dive over the center-field fence, flipping over head-first before quickly getting back to his feet on the other side of the fence to show the ball in his glove.
"That was definitely a 10 [out of 10]," Jackson said. "Like I said, he went all out. He sold out. I don't think he was thinking about the landing at that point. It was impressive."
Regenye never slowed down and never took his eye off the ball, and the only part of his body that touched the fence was his leg on the way down.
"The form was great," Jackson said. "The landing was a little scary to me. He didn't grab that fence, but it was an awesome catch."
Regenye's catch was so good that it led to some confusion among the umpiring crew. It was initially called a catch, but it was then overturned to a home run. After further review, the call was once again overturned and ruled a catch.
When asked whether Regenye's catch was better than his, Jackson wasn't ready to admit that Regenye made a more impressive catch.
"It's a little different," Jackson said with a laugh. "That catch is definitely up there, but I don't know if he's ready [for the Majors] quite yet."
