September 30th, 2026

Stay up-to-date with all the latest news on injured players across Major League Baseball.

Roman Anthony, Red Sox

Anthony was removed for a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning of Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Yankees on Sept. 29 with discomfort in his right hand/wrist. Imaging revealed additional new strains in his previously-injured hand, and he was taken off the roster on Sept. 30, making him ineligible to return until at least the ALCS.

Aaron Judge and Ryan Weathers, Yankees

Judge (right calf strain) was not on the Yankees' Wild Card Series roster. He had hit and thrown indoors as of Sept. 28 and was scheduled to participate in an on-field workout. He will continue his rehab in hopes of a return for a potential ALDS matchup.

Weathers (left forearm flexor strain) could be activated for a potential ALDS.

Luis Arraez, Phillies

Arraez (left ankle sprain) will be out at least through the Wild Card Series.

Casey Mize, Padres

Mize, placed on the 15-day IL on Sept. 26 with a left ankle sprain, will be ineligible to return until at least the NLCS.

Alex Bregman, Kevin Gausman and Justin Steele, Cubs

Bregman (facial fractures) served as the Cubs' designated hitter in the first two games of the NL Wild Card Series on Sept. 29. The Cubs and manager Craig Counsell were still unsure if Bregman would play third base when the club announced its Wild Card Series roster.

Gausman (left shoulder soreness) will start Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series on Sept. 30.

Steele (left elbow flexor strain) remains on the injured list, but manager Craig Counsell clarified that he will stay ready to potentially be activated during the postseason. He was not added to the Wild Card Series roster.

Daulton Varsho, Steven Okert and Ethan Pecko, Astros

Varsho underwent surgery on Sept. 29 to treat cysts in his left wrist and will not return in 2026.

Okert (right hamstring strain) has resumed throwing off the mound but was not added to the Wild Card Series roster.

Pecko was also left off the Wild Card Series roster. The rookie right-hander pitched through a "nagging" left hip injury down the stretch.

Rhys Hoskins and Colin Holderman, Guardians

Hoskins (lower back inflammation) is participating in simulated games ahead of the ALDS. His availability for the ALDS is still to be determined.

Holderman (right wrist inflammation) is throwing bullpen sessions, but the Guardians have not determined whether he will be available for the ALDS.

Blake Treinen and Edgardo Henriquez, Dodgers

Treinen will not pitch in the 2026 postseason due to a right shoulder injury, manager Dave Roberts said on Sept. 26.

Henriquez (lower back discomfort) is set to face hitters during the Dodgers' bye week and could be activated for the NLDS.

Griffin Jax, Chandler Simpson, Tyler Wells and Garrett Cleavinger, Rays

Jax (lower back contusion) expects to be ready for the ALDS after taking a comebacker off his back in his final regular-season appearance on Sept. 26.

Simpson (right foot soreness) took part in baseball activities on Sept. 29 and will likely be ready for the ALDS.

Wells (right forearm tightness) and Cleavinger (left forearm tightness) each threw an inning in the Rays' intrasquad scrimmage and are likely to make the ALDS roster.

Joey Ortiz and Andrew Vaughn, Brewers

Ortiz underwent an MRI exam on Sept. 25 to determine the severity of a right knee injury he suffered on Sept. 24; imaging came back clean. He has also dealt with oblique soreness for several weeks and reported groin discomfort on Sept. 24.

Vaughn was placed on the 10-day IL on Sept. 25 (retroactive to Sept. 22) due to illness. He expects to be ready for the postseason.
