MIAMI -- Cubs second baseman Ben Zobrist has a contusion on his left ankle after being hit by a pitch in the seventh inning of the Cubs' 5-4 Friday night win, and he is not expected to play Saturday. X-rays were negative, Zobrist said.
"They said it's just a bruise, and I'm day to day," Zobrist said. "It'll probably be pretty sore [Saturday]. I would guess I'll be off tomorrow. That's my guess, just because of the way it felt when I came out of the game. We'll see how it feels tomorrow."
Zobrist, who leads all National League second basemen in the latest All-Star balloting, was plunked on the ankle by the Marlins' Mike Dunn, and stayed in the game to finish the inning but was lifted defensively in the bottom of the seventh.

"I was very uncomfortable trying to run around the bases," Zobrist said.
The Cubs have been shorthanded with Anthony Rizzo (back) and Miguel Montero (right knee) both sidelined for two games. On Friday, Chicago scored four runs in the first, but Miami tied it in their half of the inning. Rookie Willson Contreras smacked the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh.
"It's been a tough week, having guys go down," Zobrist said. "It's not been easy on anybody. It was a good game tonight and everybody battled. You need everybody on the roster at this point. That's what makes it such a team game. We need every guy on the roster. These kind of wins are good for us."
