TAMPA, Fla. -- Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker was arrested early Friday morning and charged with driving under the influence, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Walker was pulled over shortly after midnight for driving 82 mph in a 45-mph zone and later failed a field sobriety test before being booked at 2:02 a.m. ET on the morning of March 25. He was later released on a $500 cash bond. The Blue Jays confirmed the incident and Walker met with the media following Saturday’s game in Tampa to issue the following statement.

“There was a traffic incident on Thursday night that I was involved in,” Walker said. “I’m very apologetic to the Blue Jays' organization, Blue Jays fans and my family. I’m working with my attorney to get resolution to this right now. My apologies to my three daughters, as well. Right now, we’re working through that with my attorney for resolution and that is the only comment I’ll have right now.”

Walker has remained with the Blue Jays since the arrest and will continue to be with the club as it gathers information, manager Charlie Montoyo said following the game.

“The Blue Jays and I are aware of what happened and the incident involving Pete,” Montoyo said. “We are still gathering information and out of respect to the process, that’s all I’m going to say about it.”

Walker, 52, has been on the Blue Jays’ Major League coaching staff since 2011 and was appointed to his current role of pitching coach in '12.
