MILWAUKEE -- To say that Brandon Crawford played an integral role in the Giants' 2-1 victory over the Brewers on Tuesday night would be an understatement.
Crawford delivered a leadoff homer in the third inning to tie the score, hammering a first-pitch changeup from Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson to right field.
"I knew he had [that pitch]," Crawford said. "I knew he'd try to mix it in."
Said Nelson: "That wasn't necessarily bad pitch selection. It just wasn't executed. I left it up."
Crawford also doubled in the ninth but was stranded.
Defensively, the National League's reigning Gold Glove winner wasn't spectacular, just efficient. He started a double play in the second inning that helped prevent a Milwaukee rally from mushrooming, and he had a similar effect in the third, when he threw home to retire Jonathan Villar, who tried to score from third on Domingo Santana's grounder.

With San Francisco's infield playing halfway in to cut off the run, Crawford's throw traveled slightly to the first-base side of home plate. Catcher Buster Posey grabbed the ball and wheeled quickly to tag out Villar.
"I didn't have a lot of time, because I went to my left a little bit," Crawford said. Praising Posey for his deft play, he added, "Obviously, if he didn't make that tag, we might still be playing right now."
