Marlins' hitting coach leaving for Mariners (sources)

November 16th, 2023

Marlins hitting coach Brant Brown has an agreement in place to join the Mariners, sources told MLB.com on Wednesday night.

The club did not confirm the report.

Brown joined 2023 National League Manager of the Year Skip Schumaker's coaching staff after spending the previous three seasons as the Dodgers' hitting coach and serving as the organization's hitting strategist from '18-19. He has ties to Seattle, where he was hired in '12 to be the Minor League outfield and baserunning coordinator.

Working alongside assistant hitting coaches John Mabry and Jason Hart, Brown helped Miami's offense improve in several categories from 2022-23, including batting average (from .230 to .259, second in NL) and strikeouts (from 1,429 to 1,287, third fewest). But the Marlins still scored the NL's fewest runs (666) and grounded into MLB's most double plays (159).
