ATLANTA -- After spending the past two weeks resting and strengthening his sore left wrist, Dansby Swanson has rejoined the Braves' lineup.
The Braves activated Swanson from the 10-day disabled list and optioned Matt Wisler to Triple-A Gwinnett before Saturday night's game against the Marlins. By removing a starting pitcher from the roster, the Braves were able to delay having to make a decision regarding one of their position players.
Swanson has been sidelined since he aggravated his left wrist while taking a swing during a May 2 game at Citi Field. The 24-year-old shortstop produced four encouraging plate appearances while recording a pair of singles for Class A Rome in a rehab game on Thursday. He rested on Friday with the expectation to return to the lineup on Saturday.
"I just wanted to get the soreness out because I haven't played for a couple weeks," Swanson said. "It's not the soreness in my wrist, just my body in general. But I feel good."
After starting this season in encouraging fashion, Swanson seemed to be bothered by lingering wrist discomfort that he attributes to normal wear and tear. He hit .358 with a .976 OPS through his first 16 games and .191 with a .468 OPS over the final 12 games played before going on the DL.

"He had a real good start and then I think the wrist started bothering him a little bit," Braves manager Brian Snitker said. "Hopefully we're getting him back healthy where he can turn the bat loose and pick up where he left off prior to the wrist starting to bother him." 
As Swanson neared his return, there was reason to wonder if the counter move might affect Charlie Culberson, Johan Camargo or possibly Jose Bautista. But the Braves opted to go with Wisler, who will be unavailable for a few days after totaling 85 pitches over 5 1/3 innings during Friday's spot start against the Marlins.
Wisler will not have to remain at the Minor League level for at least 10 days if the Braves choose to call him back up once Luiz Gohara is placed on the bereavement list. Gohara is expected to start Wednesday's game in Philadelphia and then travel to Brazil to be with his mother, who underwent heart surgery this week.
Camargo hit just .146 (6-for-41) while serving as the Braves' starting shortstop in Swanson's absence. His offensive struggles have positioned him to possibly be optioned to Gwinnett once the Braves opt to once again use an eight-man bullpen and four-man bench.
But Snitker indicated Camargo might stick around to occasionally spell Swanson at the shortstop position and serve as a versatile defensive option.

"He played like I expected," Snitker said. "He played a lot last year. It was good to get him consistent playing time and consistent at-bats. That will be good for him going forward."
If the Braves opt to keep Camargo, they could option outfielder Preston Tucker. But Tucker has established himself as a valuable left-handed bat off the bench and stands as the only designated backup outfielder currently on the roster.
The other options would be Culberson, who is out of options and Bautista, who has hit .143 (5-for-35) with two home runs and 12 strikeouts since joining the team on May 4. Bautista has batted just .136 against right-handed pitchers dating back to last year's All-Star break.
