ATLANTA, Ga. - The Atlanta Braves today acquired minor league right-handed pitcher Sean Ratcliffe from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jason Grilli and cash considerations. The team also recalled right-handed pitcher Ryan Weber from Triple-A Gwinnett to take Grilli's spot on the active roster. Weber will be available in the bullpen for tonight's game.
Ratcliffe, 21, went 2-2 with a 3.60 ERA (16 ER/40.0 IP) and 30 strikeouts in 22 games, one start, for the Single-A Vancouver Canadians last season. The 6'4, 200-pound native of Ajax, Ontario pitched his first two professional seasons with the rookie-level GCL Blue Jays after the Blue Jays selected him in the 18^th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Pickering High School in Ajax. The right-hander owns a 4-5 record and a 4.91 ERA (34 ER/62.1 IP) in 41 professional games.
Weber, 25, joins the Braves for the second time this season. He made three appearances in his first stint with the club, April 18-26, and earned a win in his only decision while compiling a 10.57 ERA (9 ER/7.2 IP). He went 0-2 with a 2.81 ERA in 11 games, three starts, for Triple-A Gwinnett this season.
Originally signed as a free-agent on January 7, 2015, Grilli, 39, went 4-6 with 26 saves and a 3.73 ERA (21 ER/50.2 IP) in 57 games out of the bullpen for the Braves. He was 1-2 with a 5.29 ERA (10/17.0 IP) in 21 games this season.
