Pache rakes but Gwinnett's playoff run ends
Here’s a look at the top performances of the past week by Braves prospects in the Minor Leagues:
Saturday, Sept. 7: Pache rakes but Stripers drop out of playoffs
No. 1 prospect Christian Pache went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI on Saturday for Triple-A Gwinnett, but the three-hit night from the No. 10 prospect in baseball wasn’t enough to lift Gwinnett over Columbus. The Stripers fell 5-4 to the Clippers, who jumped ahead with a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning to win the International League semifinals series three games to one. This brings Gwinnett’s season to an end and, as the last remaining Braves affiliate in action, it also brings Atlanta’s Minor League season to an end.Saturday's prospect stats »
Friday, Sept. 6: Stripers take Game 3
Triple-A Gwinnett staved off elimination with a 10-6 victory over Columbus in Game 3 of their International League semifinal series. The big hits for the Stripers came from John Ryan Murphy, who hit a three-run homer in the five-run second inning, and Cristian Pache -- the Braves’ No. 1 prospect and No. 10 overall according to MLB Pipeline -- who launched a grand slam in the five-run third. Thursday, Sept. 5: Stripers on verge of elimination
Ian Anderson cruised through the first three innings but struggled in the fourth and ultimately allowed five runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings, taking the loss as Triple-A Gwinnett fell to Columbus, 7-3. The Braves’ No. 3 prospect (MLB No. 31) threw 56 of 96 pitches for strikes, posting four strikeouts and three walks. Cristian Pache (No. 1, MLB No. 10) finished 1-for-4 with an RBI single, and Drew Waters (No. 2, MLB No. 24) doubled and scored a run from the bottom of the lineup. Wednesday, Sept. 4: Gwinnett drops Game 1
Austin Riley and Adam Duvall have hit a combined 23 homers for the Braves this season. They hit back-to-back homers for Triple-A Gwinnett in the first inning on Wednesday, though it wasn’t enough to keep the Stripers from falling to Columbus, 5-4, in the opener of a best-of-five International League semifinals. Monday, Sept. 2: Pache has perfect day at the plate
Top prospect Cristian Pache (MLB No. 10) wrapped up his breakout regular-season campaign by going 3-for-3 with a walk in Triple-A Gwinnett’s 8-5 victory against Durham. The 20-year-old outfielder batted .274/.337/.411 in 26 games for the Stripers, who will meet Columbus in the opening round of the International League playoffs on Wednesday. Overall, Pache slashed .277/.340/.462 in 130 games between Gwinnett and Double-A Mississippi. Sunday, Sept. 1: Harris fuels M-Braves offense
Trey Harris paced Double-A Mississippi’s offense with three hits and three runs scored as the M-Braves defeated Chattanooga, 9-2, in their penultimate game of the season. The Braves’ No. 18 prospect went 3-for-5 with an RBI double from the cleanup spot to improve his Double-A batting line to .275/.313/.408 through 40 games. Harris, a 32nd-round pick out of Missouri in 2018, has put himself on the prospect radar in his first full season by hitting .322/.388/.498 with 14 homers, 26 doubles and 73 RBIs in 130 games across three levels.
