The Tarps Off movement has swept through MLB stadiums in one of the most notable recent crazes in sports. On Friday night, Tampa Bay’s Tropicana Field saw a familiar face participating with the fans in the bleachers.
Brett Phillips, former Ray and 2020 World Series hero, got in on the Tarps Off action with a group of Tampa Bay fans during Friday’s 8-5 win over the Angels. One could argue that Phillips’ participation is just part of the job in his new role: He joined the Rays as a brand engagement executive in February.
Phillips has always been known as an energetic and unique figure in baseball circles. It would appear that his transition to this new role is going quite well -- and it probably won’t be the last time you see him participating in the Tarps Off craze this season.
