The hits keep on coming: Brewers' No. 5 prospect tallies first career five-hit game

Luis Lara put on an offensive clinic Tuesday night.

The Brewers' No. 5 prospect turned in a perfect 5-for-5 night, which featured a double and two RBIs in Triple-A Nashville’s 12-5 win over Gwinnett at First Horizon Park. It was the first five-hit game of Lara's career and his 21st multihit game of the season.

MLB’s No. 90 prospect’s career night started in the first inning with a single to center field off right-hander Drue Hackenberg (ATL No. 16).

Two innings later, they squared off again and Lara won a five-pitch battle by lacing a 1-2 fastball into center for an RBI single. In the fifth, he got the better of Hackenberg once more, flaring an 0-1 curveball into left. When facing right-handers this year, the switch-hitter is slashing .298/.422/.410.

Lara continued to show off his 50-grade hit tool in the seventh. The 21-year-old pulled his hands in nicely against righty Victor Mederos and lined a 2-1 cutter down the right-field line for an RBI double. When ahead in the count this season, Lara is batting an eye-popping .382 with a 1.147 OPS.

Lara capped his night in the ninth against another right-hander, Rolddy Muñoz (ATL No. 17). Working the count full, the Venezuela native turned on a slider in the bottom of the zone and roped a single to right. His fifth and final hit left his bat at 102.1 mph.

Despite a slower month of June in which he's hit just .174, Lara has still put together a strong 2026 season. His 82 hits are the most in the Brewers system this season. He also ranks in the top six in average (.327, second), OBP (.435, third) and OPS (.897, sixth).

Lara originally signed with the Brewers as an international free agent in 2022 for $1.1 million. A season ago with Double-A Biloxi, he slashed .257/.369/.343 with two homers, three triples, 32 doubles and 44 stolen bases and took home a Minor League Gold Glove Award.

The Brewers have already promoted one of their top prospects, Cooper Pratt (MIL No. 4/MLB No. 62), to the big leagues this season. With more performances like Tuesday's, Lara could see his number called sometime this season too.
