Crew eyes next week to get Braun in games

March 7th, 2016

PHOENIX -- The Brewers aim to begin easing left fielder Ryan Braun into Cactus League games sometime in the middle of next week, manager Craig Counsell said Monday after an 8-2 loss to the Padres.
Braun underwent back surgery in October and has not been physically restricted in camp. But Braun and the Brewers chose to map out a conservative schedule, in part because Braun prefers to take fewer Spring Training at-bats than some other players.
"We're looking at sometime in that third week of March," Counsell said. "That's kind of what I was shooting for [from the start]. He's not holding back at all. I think he's feeling really good. It's been all positive, for sure."
Braun is coming off a season in which he batted .285 with 25 home runs and 84 RBIs. His 140 games played were Braun's most since 2012.
