CINCINNATI -- The Brewers added at least one more player to their farm system Friday at the deadline to sign 2016 Draft picks, agreeing to a $127,814 bonus for prep left-hander Blake Lillis, the team's 25th-round selection.
The Brewers did not confirm the agreement and had yet to release a final list of their signees as of Friday night, though a club source confirmed that the team did not push past a 5 percent overage of its Draft pool. That's significant because it means the team will pay a tax on the amount it exceeded its $9,364,300 allotment but will not surrender future picks.
The agreement and bonus figure for Lillis was reported by MLBPipeline.com's Jim Callis.
Lillis, from Overland Park, Kan., had a scholarship to Arkansas and told coaches there last week that he intended to attend college, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Instead, barring an issue with his physical exam, he will join the pro ranks.
Lillis was a high school teammate of Riley Pint, the right-hander drafted fourth overall by the Rockies, one selection before the Brewers took University of Louisville outfielder Corey Ray. Including Lillis, the Brewers signed at least 37 of their 41 picks, including each of the first 16.
