MILWAUKEE – The Brewers were thrilled when TCU outfielder Sawyer Strosnider fell to them at pick No. 66 in the second round of the MLB Draft, and now they’ve sealed a deal.
Strosnider, Milwaukee’s second-round selection, was one of six additional players who had signed as of Tuesday. The others were right-hander Julian Garcia (fourth round), right-hander Gavin Perry (11th round), shortstop Chance Ruby (17th round), left-hander Sam George (19th round) and first baseman Carsten Sabathia (20th round), the son of Hall of Fame lefty CC Sabathia.

The Brewers signed Strosnider, 21, to a $2.1 million bonus, per MLB.com prospect guru Jim Callis, which is well above the assigned value of $1.3531 million for that pick. Strosnider was projected in some early mock drafts as a first-round pick, and he went into the two-day event as the 22nd-ranked Draft prospect per MLB Pipeline.
He was a power-speed threat in high school and then with TCU, where the 6-foot-2, 200-pounder became only the sixth NCAA Division I player in the past 25 years to reach double figures in home runs, triples, doubles and steals in 2025, posting a 1.070 OPS and earning Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors.
But a year later, he was still available at No. 66 after slashing .273/.415/.590 with 13 homers and 12 stolen bases as a sophomore in 2026.
“Obviously there’s all of the mock drafts and rankings and stuff like that out all year, and Sawyer was in the Top 20 of that for most of the year,” said Brewers VP of amateur player acquisition Tod Johnson on Draft night. “We evaluated him there. We always have a number of players in our potential mix at the top of the Draft, and for our first pick, he was somebody we discussed there. We’re happy – and surprised a bit – that he did fall as far as he did.
“We’re super excited. He’s a really athletic, potential five-tool player in the outfield.”
Garcia, Milwaukee’s fourth-round pick, also signed to an above-slot bonus of $1.5 million, per Callis (slot 130 value was $585,700). He’s back to full health after undergoing Tommy John surgery as a sophomore at St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif.
“He’s got one of the better curveballs in the Draft, honestly. So you know that’s a good foundation to start from,” Johnson said. “He throws a ton of strikes, and he’s a really good competitor. We’re pretty pumped that he was there in the fourth [round], and we were able to draft him in that spot.”
With those additional signings, the Brewers have inked nine of their first 11 picks in the Draft. The only unsigned players in rounds 1-10 are Clemson right-hander Aidan Knaak (fifth round) and Chelsea (Ala.) High School right-hander Grant Hill (seventh round).
Tuesday’s announcements came four days after the Brewers signed their first-round pick, Corona (Calif.) High School shortstop Brady Ebel, and sent him to Arizona to begin his professional career.
Teams have until Monday at 4 p.m. CT to agree to deals with players they draft out of four-year colleges and high schools.
