CHICAGO -- The Brewers, scheduled to play three games in Miami next weekend and stocked with players and staff with Florida ties, were keeping an eye on the news Sunday morning as Hurricane Irma made landfall.
General manager David Stearns said the team was operating under the assumption it will travel to Miami as scheduled on Thursday to begin a three-game series Friday night. If that proves untenable, the teams and Major League Baseball would have to find a neutral site.
Stearns said he expects a decision to be made by Tuesday night. Until then, Brewers personnel were hoping for the best for those in the storm's path, including for many players their own families.
"I'm hoping we go, because that means nothing happened and life goes on," manager Craig Counsell said. "I'm really hoping we go."

If the series has to be moved, Miller Park is almost certainly not an option. MLB would search for a more neutral site away from the path of the storm. Arizona's domed Chase Field, for example, is vacant that weekend.
Counsell has family on both Florida coasts. His parents, who live in Ft. Myers on the Gulf side of the state, made a last-minute call to head east to Ft. Lauderdale to stay with Counsell's sister's family. They were already without power Sunday morning.
"They're in the middle of it right now," Counsell said. "Everybody is riding it out."

To be determined
The Brewers were still weighing their options to start Wednesday's game against the Pirates in place of injured ace Jimmy Nelson, Counsell said. One option is starting Chase Anderson on three days' rest after he exited Saturday's blowout win over the Cubs after five innings and 67 pitches.
"It is something we will consider. I will say that," Counsell said.
Asked about the possibility on Saturday night, Anderson said, "Counsell hasn't told me anything, but that's always a possibility. I'll be ready for anything."
Counsell is cognizant that Anderson is just a month removed from a long stint on the disabled list for an oblique injury.
"From my perspective, you have to look at the [remaining] 20 games and at the next game," Counsell said. "I don't think we're quite at the stage that we can ride the starters like, 'Everything relies on this game.' They do have four more starts left, and we have to make sure they're good for four more starts -- and possibly more. We'll discuss it and see how it rides out the rest of the season."

• How's this for a coincidence? Two of the Brewers' midseason trade acquisitions, Neil Walker and Anthony Swarzak, celebrated a birthday Sunday. They were born on the same day in 1985.
• Saturday's win over the Cubs was the Brewers' 74th, surpassing their total from all of 2016 with 20 games to go.
