Flynn sidelined by broken rib in barn accident

February 14th, 2017

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Left-hander , a candidate to possibly make the Royals' bullpen, will miss at least eight weeks after sustaining a broken rib while falling through the roof of a barn at his home.
Royals manager Ned Yost confirmed the injury after Tuesday's workout. Flynn, 26, was doing some work at his home in McAlester, Okla., when the accident occurred.
"He was working on his barn and fell through the roof," Yost said. "So he took a pretty good tumble, knocked himself out. He's going to be eight weeks behind everyone else."
Royals' bullpen doesn't have shortage of arms
Flynn, who is out of options, also sustained three non-displaced fractures in his vertebrae. He could be a candidate to start the season on the disabled list.
Flynn had a 2.60 ERA in 36 appearances last season and would have been in stiff competition for a roster spot this spring.
