Buxton's son Brixton is a natural on the mic!

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins are plenty familiar with Brixton Buxton, the springy-haired 8-year-old with the big smile who sometimes hangs around his superstar father's corner locker in Minnesota's clubhouse. On Saturday, Twins fans got to meet him, too

How's this for a unique family outing at the ballpark? Brixton got the chance to serve as the Twins' junior public address announcer in the bottom of the third inning of the their eventual 4-3 walk-off win over the Orioles -- with the opportunity to announce his dad's name to the 20,618 in attendance at Target Field to huge cheers.

Though Brixton had served as the junior PA once before, when he was 4 or 5 years old, he thinks, his dad didn't play that day. When Byron's wife, Lindsey, asked Brixton if he wanted to do the job, the younger Buxton had a specific part of the lineup in mind.

"He was like, 'I hope I can do [Luis Arraez], you and Correa,'" Byron Buxton said. "And for him, that was like his dream come true. So that's all that kind of mattered for me. Just knowing that was exciting."

"They’re my favorite players," Brixton Buxton said.

Byron Buxton heard before the game that his son would get the chance to man the microphone, and cameras showed a big grin spreading across his face in the dugout as he heard the familiar voice booming over the Target Field speakers.

Just like Brixton had hoped, he got to announce the "A-B-C" combo atop Minnesota's lineup as the Twins sent Gio Urshela, Arraez, Buxton, Correa and Max Kepler to the plate during the inning. When Byron Buxton stepped to the plate, he listened to the introduction and tapped his chest with his fist several times.

"[The dugout was] kind of pumped," Buxton said. "'You know he was doing that?!' And I was like, 'Yeah, I knew.' He knows everybody in here. And luckily, I'm blessed enough to where he comes in here, everybody knows him, which is why he might have been a little bit more relaxed."

Brixton was a natural, with a confident voice and a big smile for the camera. Is there a broadcasting career in his future? Probably not, Byron says.

"Nah, he's going to want to play sports, for sure," Byron Buxton said.

That's probably a safe bet, considering who his father is.

"It’s just fun announcing players," Brixton Buxton said.
