SAN DIEGO -- Brock Holt can play seven positions on the field, but the multifaceted roles he takes on in the community might be even more wide-ranging and impressive.
For the second consecutive year, Holt was selected as the Red Sox's nominee for the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award.
Major League Baseball announced the 30 club nominees on Tuesday for the annual recognition of a player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field. Each club nominates one player to be considered for the Roberto Clemente Award in tribute to Clemente's achievements and character by recognizing current players who truly understand the value of helping others.

Wednesday marks the 15th annual Roberto Clemente Day, which was established by MLB to honor Clemente's legacy and to officially acknowledge local club nominees of the Roberto Clemente Award. Clubs playing at home on Wednesday will recognize their local nominee as part of Roberto Clemente Day ceremonies.
With the Red Sox on the road this week, Holt will be honored in a pregame ceremony at Fenway Park on Sept. 15.
Beginning on Roberto Clemente Day, fans are encouraged to participate in the new process of selecting the winner of the Roberto Clemente Award by posting any nominee's voting hashtags to MLB's official social media accounts, @MLB on Twitter and Facebook.com/MLB. Holt's hashtag is #VoteBrock. Voting is underway.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a Red Sox Foundation event that Holt isn't involved with in some way. He has led the team in community appearances the past two seasons.
"I'll be honest," Red Sox director of community and player relations Sarah Narracci said last winter. "He was my go-to guy this year in terms of everything. He never says no. He enjoys it."
In January, Holt received the Tim Wakefield Community Service Award at the Boston Baseball Writers Dinner.
Whenever there are Jimmy Fund patients at Fenway during batting practice, Holt is usually right in the vicinity, interacting with those children who are dealing with cancer.
Holt has a way of relating to the kids and putting a smile on their faces.
This was the second year in a row Holt served as a Jimmy Fund co-captain.
Holt and his wife Lakyn have also taken a strong interest in the Red Sox Foundation's Home Base Program, which supports veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars with traumatic brain injury and/or post-traumatic stress disorder independent and confidential services.
Lakyn has participated in the "Run to Home Base," a fundraising event in the form of a race, with Brock supporting her and other runners. Holt is also captain of the Home Base Program.
The original "Commissioner's Award" for philanthropic service was renamed in 1973 in honor of Clemente, the Hall of Famer and 15-time All-Star who died in a plane crash on New Year's Eve 1972 while attempting to deliver supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.
