MINNEAPOLIS – Nobody in the Twins’ clubhouse needed a moment like Brooks Lee needed a moment. And sometimes, baseball delivers.
Lee, who came off the bench as a defensive replacement an inning earlier, poked a tiebreaking two-run single in the eighth inning on Thursday, sending Minnesota to a 3-1 win and four-game sweep of the Tigers at Target Field. Lee had been 5-for-30 on the season entering the game.
Matt Wallner kicked off the winning rally with a one-out walk, and Victor Caratini singled. After Kody Clemens struck out, Royce Lewis beat out an infield hit to load the bases. That brought up Lee, who worked a full count before delivering the game-winner.
It was the first four-game sweep by any Major League team this season, and the Twins’ first sweep of a four-game series since June 13-16, 2024, in Oakland. Minnesota moved above .500 for the first time this season at 7-6, and the first time overall since June 2025.
Mick Abel pitched brilliantly for the Twins but received a no-decision. After a pair of rough outings, Abel pitched six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and three walks with six strikeouts.
Eric Orze finished it off for the Twins, becoming their fifth pitcher to record a save this year.
