Busch Stadium to host Liverpool-Roma match

Game between European soccer powers will take place Aug. 1

June 1st, 2016

MILWAUKEE -- Soccer will be returning to Busch Stadium this summer, as the Cardinals announced on Wednesday that their home ballpark will host a match against European clubs Liverpool F.C. and A.S. Roma at 7:30 p.m. CT on August 1. It will mark the fifth soccer match Busch Stadium has hosted since 2013.
"St. Louis soccer fans will not want to miss this exciting match between these two historic clubs," said Cardinals team president Bill DeWitt III. "This is a wonderful opportunity for soccer fans to see two of the most renowned teams in the world play in a ballpark that has proven to be ideal for world-class soccer."
Tickets for the match can be purchased at cardinals.com/soccer beginning at 10 a.m. on June 8.
Busch Stadium hosted games for both the United States men's and women's national soccer teams last year. The USWNT toppled New Zealand in an international friendly match in April, while the USMNT defeated Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in a November qualification match for the 2018 World Cup.
This match between Liverpool and Roma will be part of a packed August at Busch Stadium. In addition to the 12 Cardinals games to be played there, the Cards also previously announced that Busch Stadium will host a Paul McCartney concert on Aug. 13. That show is already sold out.
Worth noting
• General manager John Mozeliak said the organization is still unsure when shortstop Jhonny Peralta will resume his rehab assignment. Peralta, who was nearing his return from left thumb surgery, has been sidelined since cutting his right finger with a knife on Saturday.
• Luke Weaver is expected to join a Cardinals affiliate in the coming days after proving himself healthy in extended spring camp. Weaver missed the first month of the season recovering from a left wrist fracture suffered during Spring Training.
