Giants' offense picks up after Posey's pep talk

May 30th, 2016

DENVER -- Exercising his influence as the Giants' resident leader and star performer, catcher Buster Posey called a brief hitters' meeting before Saturday's game against the Colorado Rockies. Posey said little about the meeting, but it was basically meant to adjust his teammates' attitude.
After Sunday's 8-3 victory, the Giants have surged to a 20-7 record in May, largely on the strength of their pitching. Posey decided a few encouraging words could help the hitters, whose struggles with runners in scoring position have been pronounced.
It's worth nothing that in two games since the meeting, the Giants have amassed 18 runs and 33 hits.
Center fielder Denard Span said the meeting helped the Giants get their "swag up and swing the bats the way we're capable of doing."
"Staying positive" was how Hunter Pence summarized the meeting.
