Posey patient after season-ending surgery

Garcia among headliners participating in AFL; right-hander Black recalled from Sacramento

SAN FRANCISCO -- Right now, no news from is good news.
The Giants' six-time All-Star catcher spoke to reporters Saturday for the first time since undergoing season-ending hip surgery on Monday. He already has begun riding an exercise bicycle and "moving around," he said, though it's still far too early to tell whether his six-month timetable for recovery will be lengthened or shortened.
"I think the biggest thing is keeping the weight off of it for about six weeks," Posey said.
The experience of overcoming the multiple injuries to his left leg sustained in a May 2011 home-plate collision should help Posey endure this ordeal.
"Just mentally knowing that patience is required," Posey said.
Fall ball: Catcher headlines the group of Giants' farmhands who will participate in the Arizona Fall League with the Scottsdale Scorpions this year. Garcia also played in the AFL last season.
Others headed for Arizona include right-handers Melvin Adon, and Sam Wolff, left-hander Garrett Williams, infielder C.J. Hinojosa and outfielder Heath Quinn. In addition, Double-A Richmond skipper Willie Harris will manage Scottsdale.
Black back: With Saturday's expansion of the active roster to 40, the Giants recalled right-hander from Triple-A Sacramento. Manager Bruce Bochy said that more callups can be expected after the Minor League seasons end Monday -- primarily pitchers, especially with the Giants visiting hitter-friendly Coors Field in their next series.
