MINNEAPOLIS -- was removed during the second inning of the Twins’ 5-3 win over the Brewers on Tuesday evening after he crashed into the center-field wall on an attempt to make a leaping catch on Yasmani Grandal’s triple.

The Twins announced Buxton sustained a right knee bruise and is day to day. Buxton said after the game that he was fine and wanted to stay in the game, and neither he nor manager Rocco Baldelli expressed any concern about his condition.

"I wanted to stay in," Buxton said. "I wanted to do what I could to try to help us win like we did. It’s just one of those things, got to take step out and I know my teammates got my back."

Buxton sprinted toward the bullpens in left-center field and jumped at the warning track, but the ball hit off the heel of his glove before the right side of his body hit the fence dividing the visitors’ bullpen from the field. He caromed off the wall and hit the ground hard.

He was down for several seconds as manager Rocco Baldelli, head athletic trainer Tony Leo and assistant athletic trainer Matt Biancuzzo ran to center field. Buxton was able to get to his feet for a lengthy conversation with the athletic trainers and even lightly jogged around the outfield to demonstrate his condition, but he was removed from the game.

"There was still a small question when we were still standing in the outfield of whether or not he was fine or not," Baldelli said. "I think in situations like that, the answer is almost always just to get the guy in there and get him looked at but he’s in good shape, and I think he’ll be fine going forward."

It marked the second time this season Buxton was removed from a game following a collision with a wall. He was also taken out of the Twins’ April 2 contest against the Royals after a leaping attempt at the warning track on what became an inside-the-park home run by Adalberto Mondesi.

Buxton was slashing .258/.316/.491 with five homers and a Major League-leading 19 doubles entering Tuesday. After Buxton’s exit, Max Kepler moved from right field to center field, Eddie Rosario moved from left to right, Marwin Gonzalez moved from first base to left field and Willians Astudillo entered the game to play first base.
