WASHINGTON -- The Brewers reportedly have busted their budget on 11th-round Draft pick Chad McClanahan, agreeing to a deal worth $1.2 million, according to MLBPipeline.com's Jonathan Mayo.
The Brewers have not confirmed the deal.

McClanahan, a 6-foot-5 third baseman from Phoenix Brophy Prep, told teams before the Draft that it would take that much to sign him away from a scholarship offer to Arizona State. To get there, the Brewers had to exceed their bonus pool.
When first-round pick Corey Ray signed on June 25 for $4.125 million, Milwaukee had spent $8,723,600 of its $9,364,300 pool to sign all 11 of the team's selections in the first 10 rounds. That left $640,700 remaining -- well short of McClanahan's asking price, even when considering that the first $100,000 of a bonus for an individual player taken after the 10th round does not count against the pool.
However, teams can exceed their allotment by up to 5 percent without surrendering future picks, if they are willing to pay a 75 percent tax on the overage. That gave the Brewers another $468,215 with which to work, bringing their potential total to $1,108,915.
And because the first $100,000 did count against the Brewers' total, McClanhan's $1.2 million request just barely fit. With the tax for exceeding their original allotment, his $1.2 million bonus will actually cost the team $1,619,550.

The Brewers also signed 19th-round pick Zachary Clark, a speedy outfielder from Pearl River Community College in Mississippi, to an undisclosed bonus.
