Colorado Rockies recall right-handed pitcher Chad Bettis

The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Chad Bettis from Triple-A Albuquerque and optioned right-handed pitcher Carlos Estévez to Triple-A.

  • Bettis, 28, will make his season debut tonight against the Atlanta Braves … was diagnosed with testicular cancer and underwent surgery last fall … made one start in Spring Training before beginning chemotherapy treatments … was placed on the 60-day disabled list on March 26 and sent to rehab on July 13 … was reinstated from the 60-day DL and optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Aug. 4 … in six appearances, five starts, between Double-A Hartford and Triple-A, went 0-3 with a 4.24 ERA (23.1 IP, 11 ER), seven walks and 17 strikeouts … the Lubbock, Texas, native went 14-8 with a 4.79 ERA (186.0 IP, 99 ER), 59 walks and 138 strikeouts in 2016, setting single-season career highs in wins, starts, innings and strikeouts … in 89 career appearances, 60 starts, across parts of four seasons with Colorado is 23-19 with a 5.01 ERA (370.1 IP, 206 ER), 131 walks and 279 strikeouts … was originally selected by Colorado in the second round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas Tech University.   • Estévez, 24, has combined to go 5-0 with a 6.53 ERA (20.2 IP, 15 ER), eight walks and 19 strikeouts in 21 games with Colorado across seven stints … with Albuquerque this season, is 1-3 with a 1.65 ERA (27.1 IP, 5 ER), nine walks and 26 strikeouts … the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native made his Major League debut for Colorado on April 23, 2016 vs. Los Angeles-NL and has gone 8-7 with 11 saves and a 5.59 ERA (75.2 IP, 47 ER) with 36 walks and 78 strikeouts over 84 career appearances.
