Nationals recall RHP A.J. Cole & Pedro Severino

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher A.J. Cole and catcher Pedro Severino from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday and placed right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde on the 10-day disabled list with a right forearm flexor strain. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.

Cole, 25, finished his Triple-A season 4-5 with 5.88 ERA in 18 starts. Making his sixth start of the season at the Major League-level on Monday night at Miami, Cole is 1-4 with a 4.50 ERA in the Major Leagues in 2017. The right-hander has turned in a quality start in three of his five MLB starts this year, including in each of his last two outings.

Severino, 24, returns to the Nationals for his fifth recall of the season. The athletic backstop is hitting .273 in the Major Leagues this season (3-for-11), with one double and one RBI in nine games. In the Minor Leagues this year, Severino hit .248 with four doubles, one triple, five home runs, and 29 RBI. With Triple-A Syracuse, Severino threw out 18 of 58 attempted base-stealers (31 percent).

Fedde, 24, has made three Major League starts this season. He is 0-1 with a 9.39 ERA in those outings. The Nationals' No. 2 prospect entering the season per Baseball America, Fedde is 4-5 with a 3.69 ERA in 29 games (13 starts) in the Minor Leagues this season.
