SEATTLE -- Cal Raleigh isn’t ready for May to be over just yet.
The Mariners catcher hit two more homers in Friday’s 12-6 loss to the Twins in 10 innings at T-Mobile Park, running his AL-leading home run total up to 21 and continuing his historic homer pace.
Raleigh crushed a three-run homer to give Seattle the lead in the first inning, then provided some insurance with a two-run smash in the eighth. He slugged home runs No. 10 and 11 of the month, the second most in May behind only MLB leader Shohei Ohtani (15 in May, 22 on the season).
Raleigh is on pace for 57 home runs this season, which would be easily the most by a primary catcher in a single season. Salvador Perez holds the record with 48 homers in 2021. Raleigh's first dinger of the night made him the first catcher to hit 20 home runs before the end of May.
There's no question it's been a stellar month for Raleigh. The best part? There's still one more day to go.
