Ferguson, 21, could start for the Dodgers against the Pirates on Wednesday. Manager Dave Roberts on Sunday said the club had not determined who would make that start. Four of the Dodgers' starting pitchers are on the disabled list.

Ferguson was recently promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City after beginning the season at Double-A Tulsa. He is the 15th-ranked player in the system by MLB Pipeline and the only left-handed pitcher on the organization's Top 30 list. He had Tommy John surgery as a senior in high school in 2014, when the Dodgers drafted him in the 38th round.

Ferguson was 3-0 with a 1.38 ERA at Tulsa and 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA at Oklahoma City, with 52 strikeouts in a combined 47 innings. The Dodgers will need to clear a spot on the 40-man roster to add Ferguson.

Ken Gurnick has covered the Dodgers for MLB.com since 2001.
