Waino activated from DL; Gyorko returns to field

CINCINNATI -- It's all-hands-on-deck time for the Cardinals, who moved closer to full strength on Tuesday.
Veteran right-hander was activated from the 10-day disabled list prior to Tuesday's game against Cincinnati at Great American Ball Park after missing most of the past month due to a right elbow impingement. The plan is for him to pitch out of the bullpen for the rest of the season.
Meanwhile, infielder , slowed by a strained right hamstring, made his first start in the field since Aug. 26, batting seventh and playing third base.

Right-handed reliever also said he hopes to be available soon after not pitching since Sept. 7 due to hamstring tightness.
"We need his presence, his leadership," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said of Wainwright. When asked about the possibility of Wainwright returning to the starting rotation down the stretch, Matheny said, "If he's our best option, I'm not going to rule him out."
Matheny also noted that Gyorko's return to health gives the team some flexibility.
St. Louis came into the series trailing Colorado by 4 1/2 games in the race for the National League's second Wild Card spot.
