MIAMI -- Another four-run deficit, another comeback victory at Marlins Park. The Cardinals on Wednesday were unfazed trailing by sizeable margins early and were able to rally for the second straight night.
William Fowler's pinch-hit two-run triple plated Magneuris Sierra and Tommy Pham and highlighted a three-run sixth inning, and the Cardinals held on for a 7-5 win over the Marlins, extending their winning streak to six games.
"You kind of scratch your head when you see this team continue to come back like they have," said Cardinals manager Mike Matheny. "It's not ideally how you draw it up, but it's something that's special."
On Tuesday the Cardinals trailed by four runs in the eighth inning, only to recover and win, 6-5. The Marlins' bullpen gave up the lead again on Wednesday, and the club suffered its 12th loss in its last 15 games.
"This is a time in the season we've really got to stay strong mentally, stay together," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "Not start pointing fingers at anybody or any one area of our club. Just do what we have to do to get a win Friday night [against Atlanta] and start moving forward."
St. Louis' rally started in the third inning, when it struck for three runs off Miami starter Tom Koehler, with Jedd Gyorko delivering a two-run single. Fowler's two-run triple in the sixth came off lefty Jarlin Garcia.

"The offense gives us the lead, we give it back," Koehler said. "It just seems we're finding new ways every night to lose. If it's not one thing, it's another. It's tough, but you've really got to try to find a way to snap out of it."
The Marlins jumped on Cardinals starter Lance Lynn for four runs in the first inning on Christian Yelich's solo shot to center and Justin Bour's three-run homer to right. The right-hander worked a season-low four innings, and his 104 pitches were a season most. He had thrown six innings in his previous four starts.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Sore lat, hot bat: A sore right lat muscle may have kept Fowler out of the starting lineup, but it didn't prevent him from turning in two of the biggest hits of the series. Fowler's triple off Garcia in the sixth put the Cardinals in front to stay. It was Fowler's second clutch pinch-hit in the series. Broxton wins showdown with Stanton: After Miami had closed to within a run on Derek Dietrich's RBI single in the sixth, St. Louis' one-run lead hung in the balance when Giancarlo Stanton stepped in against Jonathan Broxton with the bases full and two outs. Broxton won the battle, getting Stanton to chop a grounder back to the mound on a 96.6-mph 1-2 fastball.

"Most guys who see me, they think I'm not athletic," said the 6-foot-4, 305-pound reliever. "I played basketball in high school and I've always been good with my footwork. I take pride in trying to be very athletic. It's just reaction, and I try to get any ball I can. If anything, knock it down to where I still have a play."

QUOTABLE
"It's something you don't see that often, three shortstops [hurt in 72 hours]. Put some caution tape around shortstop, I guess." -- Miami shortstop J.T. Riddle, who was scratched from the starting lineup but used as a pinch-runner in the ninth inning. Riddle injured his right index finger taking grounders during early warmups on Wednesday. Miami shortstops Adeiny Hechavarria and Miguel Rojas were placed on the DL this week.

In this three-game series, the Nos. 7-9 hitters in the Cardinals' lineup went 15-for-36, with 12 runs scored and nine RBIs. The 7 and 8 hitters, Pham and Sierra, were only called up to the Major Leagues on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
LYNN REACHES 800 K'S
Lynn struck out Koehler looking to lead off the fourth inning for his 800th career strikeout. Lynn, who celebrates his 30th birthday on Friday, became just the 12th Cardinals pitcher to reach that milestone. Going into the game, his 132 starts and 757 strikeouts since 2012 were the second most of any St. Louis pitcher despite missing the entire 2016 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Tuesday's starter, Adam Wainwright, is tops, with 142 starts and 796 strikeouts.

WHAT'S NEXT
Cardinals: The Cardinals take a day off before opening a three-game series with the Cubs at 6:10 p.m. CT on Friday to begin an eight-game homestand. Right-hander Mike Leake takes the mound looking to extend a personal four-game win streak.
Marlins: Right-hander Jose Urena, who began the season as a long reliever, impressed so much in his first start, he is getting a second shot, taking the mound on Friday at 7:10 p.m. ET in the series opener with the Braves. Mike Foltynewicz goes for Atlanta.
