Cards make changes to medical staff

November 29th, 2016

ST. LOUIS -- Dr. George Paletta Jr., who served as the Cardinals' medical director and head team physician from 1998-2013, will return as the organization's head orthopedic physician in '17, the Cardinals announced on Tuesday.
Also returning to the medical staff is orthopedist Lyndon Gross, who, like Paletta, was let go when the Cardinals turned their player medical care over to Mercy Sports Medicine before the 2014 season.
Joining Paletta and Gross as team orthopedists will be Husam Nawas, Mahesh Bagwe and Julienne Lippe. Brian Mahaffey returns as the Cardinals' primary care sports medicine and Minor League liaison, and the club has added Alok Sengupta to assist him in that role.
Also returning from the Cardinals' 2016 medical team will be Josh Binek (internist) and Brandon Larkin (concussion specialist). Charles Rehm will join the staff as a Mercy chief administrative officer, and Adam Fedyk will serve as an independent vision consultant.
