Watch free today: It's a Cardinals-Mets rematch

May 17th, 2022

When the Cardinals and Mets last met, the April 27 finale ended with a benches-clearing incident. On Tuesday, you’ll be able to see if there are any lingering hard feelings when the two teams face off in the first of two games at Citi Field in the MLB.TV Free Game of the Day.

Only the first game of the single-admission doubleheader, which will start at 3:10 p.m. ET/2:10 CT, will be free to stream.

The Cardinals (19-15) enter Tuesday's doubleheader fresh off a series win against the San Francisco Giants, while the Mets (23-13) are coming off a series loss to the Mariners -- their first series loss of the year.

Despite losing two of three to Seattle, the Mets are still one of the most complete teams in baseball, as evidenced by their .251 team batting average (tied for fourth best in MLB), 302 hits (tied for second) and 3.40 ERA (sixth best).

Slugger leads the Mets in home runs (eight) and RBIs (29), and he's poised for another big series against the Cardinals. That said, the Mets have done a good job of keeping the line moving on offense this year, thanks in large part to consistent hitting from Jeff McNeil (.308), Brandon Nimmo (.304) and new addition Starling Marte (.266, 20 RBIs).

, who leads the club with eight home runs and 29 RBIs, was in the center of last month’s benches-clearing incident after he took exception to an inside pitch from right-handed reliever Yoan López, so any of his at-bats will be must-watch viewing. Along with Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt (.312 average, 20 RBIs) and Tommy Edman (team-leading 2.4 bWAR) have been impact players for St. Louis this season.
