SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Carl Crawford drove in two runs and contributed to a two-run rally that broke a fifth-inning tie and helped the Los Angeles Dodgers outlast the San Francisco Giants, 5-2, on Sunday in Cactus League play.
With the score deadlocked at 1, Cody Bellinger came home as Crawford tripled off Clayton Blackburn, who proceeded to yield Yasiel Puig's sacrifice fly.

Brandon Crawford, serving as the Giants' designated hitter, homered off Matt West to christen San Francisco's half of the sixth inning and keep the score close. Los Angeles essentially settled matters with a two-run eighth inning.

Each team scored in the third inning. Los Angeles opened the scoring as Micah Johnson, Bellinger and Carl Crawford delivered consecutive singles off Giants starter Jeff Samardzija, who was working his final inning. San Francisco pulled even as Gorkys Hernandez singled off Adam Liberatore and came around to score on two groundouts and a wild pitch.

After the game, Carl Crawford revealed that he has been told he will serve as the backup to Andre Ethier in left field when the regular season begins. Dave Roberts has not officially announced that Ethier will be his regular left fielder -- "Nothing is set in stone," the Dodgers' manager said on Sunday -- but Crawford has been told to expect a bench role.
Samardzija struck out five without issuing a walk in his three innings, surrendering just the one run on five hits. He looked especially impressive as he opened the game by striking out the side.

"Every time out, you want to have a strong first inning," Samardzija said. "Speaking from experience, it makes the day a little bit longer when that first inning's a grind."
With a chance to claim a spot in the Dodgers' starting rotation, prospect Zach Lee struck out one and held San Francisco to one hit over two scoreless innings. Lee overcame a dropped fly ball by Carl Crawford in left field with no outs in the first inning to strand Giants on first and second.
"Zach was throwing strikes; I liked the way he recovered after the error by C.C.," Roberts said. "He missed barrels, kept his composure. It was a good outing for him."

Up next for the Dodgers:Alex Wood will make his first start of the spring on Monday at 12:05 p.m. PT, facing Corey Kluber and the Cleveland Indians at Camelback Ranch-Glendale. Wood is slotted in as the fourth starter in the rotation, up one notch after the injury to Brett Anderson.
