SAN FRANCISCO -- The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Rowan Wick from Triple-A Iowa. Right-handed pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. was optioned to Triple-A following yesterday’s game. Wick, 26, joins the Cubs for the fourth time this season, as he has posted no record and a 3.86 ERA (3 ER/7.0 IP) in five relief outings during his previous stints from May 22-23, June 15-23 and June 29-July 1. He has gone 1-0 with six saves and a 1.80 ERA (7 ER/35.0 IP) in 27 relief outings with Iowa this year, striking out 44 batters and walking only nine in 35.0 innings while limiting foes to a .195 batting average against and posting a 0.97 WHIP. Wick joins the Cubs having tossed 13-straight scoreless outings with Iowa since May 30, covering 12.2 innings pitched, striking out 16 batters while walking only two during this stretch.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Wick made his major league debut with the San Diego Padres last year and went 0-1 with a 6.48 ERA (6 ER/8.1 IP) in 10 relief appearances. With Triple-A El Paso last season, he went 2-0 with nine saves and a 1.99 ERA (5 ER/22.2 IP) in 20 relief outings. Wick was acquired by the Cubs from San Diego on November 20, 2018 for infielder Jason Vosler.

A native of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Wick was originally selected by St. Louis in the ninth round of the 2012 Draft out of Cypress Community College. He was a catcher/outfielder for his first four pro seasons before converting to a pitcher during the 2015 campaign. Overall, he is 9-6 with 32 saves and a 2.63 ERA (52 ER/177.2 IP) in 157 minor league relief appearances covering the last five seasons.
