Correa sees himself playing for Twins 'for a long time'
HOUSTON -- Carlos Correa entered free agency for the first time last season and could become a free agent again this coming offseason, but he said on Tuesday he wants to remain with the Twins. The shortstop went 1-for-4 in the 4-2 loss to the Astros on Tuesday with a single in the seventh to break up Houston's no-no bid started by Justin Verlander.
Before the game, Correa spoke to the media about his return to Houston. During the press conference, the All-Star shortstop was asked about the possibility of rejoining his former team.
“I don't know,” Correa said. “I'm with the Twins right now, and the goal is to build something special with the organization, and hopefully, be here long term with the Twins. Right now, I see myself playing with the Twins for a long time.”
Correa signed a three-year, $105 million contract with the Twins in March, but there are opt outs after each of the first two seasons.
In his first season with the Twins, Correa is hitting .269 with 14 home runs and 39 RBIs. The three-time All-Star and 2015 AL Rookie of the Year owns a career .276/.355/.475 slash line with 147 homers and 528 RBIs over eight seasons, the first seven of which came with the Astros.
