The Yankees lost another starter on Friday, as left-hander Carlos Rodón was placed on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Tuesday) with left elbow inflammation. In a series of corresponding moves, 3B Ryan McMahon and OF Trent Grisham were both reinstated from the 10-day injured list, and INF/OF Oswaldo Cabrera was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Rodón last pitched on Sunday in a 5-4 loss to the Red Sox, allowing one hit -- a two-run single -- and four walks while striking out six in five innings. The runs were unearned after a Cabrera error. Rodón had been scheduled to start on July 4 against the Twins.
Rodón, 33, was an All-Star in 2025. After beginning the '26 season on the injured list following offeason surgery to remove a bone spur in his left elbow, he has gone 4-2 with a 3.30 ERA in nine starts. Rodón has two years remaining on a six-year contract that concludes following the 2028 season.
Grisham's return was expected, following a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset. He started in center field on Wednesday, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Grisham had injured his right hamstring on June 12 in Toronto.
McMahon, who had a throat infection, was supposed to join Grisham for rehab games in Somerset, but was scratched with food poisoning.
