CHICAGO -- White Sox southpaw Carlos Rodon has not pitched since Sept. 2, after being shut down for the season with shoulder inflammation. He was scratched from a Sept. 7 start against the Indians.
But Rodon and the club are still on a fact-finding mission where the shoulder is concerned, according to Rodon's comments on Saturday.
"We're just trying to get it right, man," Rodon said. "Still trying to figure everything out and take everything we can and put it all together to get the most information, and do what's best for me and for this team.
"Right now, I'm just not throwing. I'm giving it a rest."
Rodon terms his concern level as "not that high," reiterating a point he made before the team's last road trip in that, "I just know that I'll be ready for next season."
When asked if some sort of shoulder surgery remains a possibility, Rodon neither confirmed nor denied the option.
"I can't tell you. I can't answer that right now," Rodon said. "We're still trying to gather information and figure out where we're going from there."
Due to biceps bursitis, Rodon did not make his season debut until June 28. He posted a 2.93 ERA and 48 strikeouts over 40 innings in starts from July 25 to Aug. 21, but he made only two more starts and finished with 69 1/3 innings overall.
"It's the offseason so it's a good time to take some time off," said Rodon, who usually starts throwing in preparation for the next season some time in December. "The goal is to be ready for next year and be healthy through all of next season."
"He continues to be a big part of what we believe is the future of the organization," manager Rick Renteria said. "Unfortunately, this year he's been down quite a bit. So assuming he comes back in a good situation and is healthy, and is capable of going out and performing, he fits into one of the five guys that are going to be out there for us next season."
