The Mets have signed their top 2026 Draft selection, right-handed pitcher Carson Wiggins, the club announced on Wednesday. The agreement is for a full-slot $3,466,500, according to MLB.com’s Jim Callis. New York selected Wiggins with the 27th overall pick in last weekend’s Draft.

“Wiggins is an electric arm, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the organization,” said Mets vice president of amateur scouting Kris Gross in a statement. “He’s an elite athlete that offers premium velocity, two swing-and-miss breaking pitches, and an emerging changeup. We are confident he will continue to grow in our player development system and are excited to watch what he can do.

“I want to congratulate Carson and his family on the hard work, dedication and commitment it took to reach this day. I also want to thank our amateur scouting staff and the entire baseball operations department, whose tireless work and dedication made today possible.”

Wiggins, 21, boasts a blazing fastball that reached 102 mph during his time as an Arkansas Razorback. Ranked as MLB Pipeline’s No. 88 Draft prospect, the knock on Wiggins is that injuries held him to just 14 competitive innings after graduating high school.

Wiggins tore his UCL as a freshman at Arkansas last spring, leading to Tommy John surgery with an internal brace. He was able to participate in some bullpen workouts this spring despite not pitching in a game.

The younger brother of Cubs Top 100 prospect Jaxon Wiggins, Carson also features an upper-80s slider and a mid-80s changeup.

“We’re really excited about the repertoire he’s working with,” Gross said. “We think he’s going to be a really damn good pitcher. Frontline upside. That was a real attraction with Carson.”
