PHILADELPHIA -- Not hot weather, not the sideways fortunes of his team, nothing can rob Rockies leadoff hitter and center fielder Charlie Blackmon of the energy to hit.
Blackmon continued his powerful run Friday night during the Rockies' 10-6 loss to the Phillies with the first three-home run game of his career.
In his last 14 games, Blackmon is batting .468 with six home runs, seven doubles, a triple, 13 RBIs and a 1.418 OPS. He's driven in 12 runs in his last seven and has multiple-hit games in five of his last six.
For his first homer, he swatted a Jake Thompson changeup 439 feet off an advertisement on the façade of the second deck in right field. The next two homers were on fastballs, from Edubray Ramos to the opposite-field gap in left center in the seventh and off David Hernandez to right field in the ninth.
Since missing 13 games with turf toe in his left foot in late April, Blackmon has appeared in all 93 games (with 90 starts) and hit .325 with a .893 OPS. Before the All-Star Game, Rockies manager Walt Weiss noted that Blackmon had an argument for inclusion on the National League All-Star team. With each game, he makes his skipper look smarter.
"I think my body is just feeling good," Blackmon said. "I was really tired a few weeks ago. I've broken through and I've bounced back, and feel strong."
