Davis, Blackmon activated off IL; Rusin DFA'd

Infielder Hampson optioned to Triple-A as Rox welcome back All-Stars

NEW YORK -- The Rockies activated reliever Wade Davis and outfielder Charlie Blackmon from the injured list prior to Friday's game against the Mets, while optioning second baseman Garrett Hampson to Triple-A Albuquerque and designating left-hander Chris Rusin for assignment.

Blackmon, normally the team’s leadoff hitter, was on the IL because of a right calf strain. He was not in Friday’s starting lineup against the Mets, but was available to come off the bench, according to manager Bud Black. The skipper also said that Blackmon will likely be in the starting lineup Saturday against New York.

“Charlie has confidence in the calf. No hesitation, no tentativeness, so he is ready to go,” Black said. “He strengthens our bench [for today]. He is one of our best 25 players.”

Davis (left oblique strain) was activated after having worked a simulated game in Chicago and throwing several bullpen sessions.

“It’s really good to be back. I’ve been watching a lot of baseball in the dugout,” Davis said.

To this day, Davis does not know how he hurt the oblique. He woke up one morning after pitching and felt tightness in the area. The injury didn’t go away for about a week, he said.

As for Rusin, he appeared in two games out of the bullpen this season and allowed four runs in one inning.

“He hasn’t pitched well, and he knows it’s a performance game,” Black said.

Hampson played in 31 games and went 18-for-97 (.186) with a home run and six RBIs.

Fernandez suspended

The Commissioner's Office announced that Rockies Minor League outfielder Vince Fernandez, the club's No. 24 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, has received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Amphetamine, a stimulant in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Fernandez, 23, was playing for Double-A Hartford and was hitting .263 with 13 home runs and 30 RBIs.
