SEATTLE -- Chase DeLauter made a bit of a prediction in the Guardians’ clubhouse Saturday afternoon during a casual conversation with the media. The 24-year-old was responsible for Cleveland’s first three home runs this season, but he declared someone would join him in those ranks later in the day.
Well, he may have been underestimating himself. DeLauter is proving to be inevitable, Guardians fans.
DeLauter also joined Story in ‘16 and former Mariner Kyle Lewis in ‘19 as the only players to hit at least one home run in each of his first three-plus career regular-season games.
DeLauter hit a four-seam fastball from Mariners closer Andrés Muñoz that was up and outside a Statcast-projected 365 feet to left field. The pitch was off the plate, and he still hit it 99 mph off the bat to muscle it over the left-field wall.
Along with DeLauter, José Ramírez made history on Saturday. The 33-year-old hit his 400th career double in the sixth inning, joining Tris Speaker (486) and Nap Lajoie (424) as the only players with 400-plus doubles in Cleveland franchise history.
