Washington named finalist for Team Silver Slugger Award
Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams and outfielder James Wood were named finalists for the Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger Awards on Thursday. Abrams looks to become the second Nationals shortstop to win a Silver Slugger, while Wood looks to become the fourth Nationals outfielder. The Washington Nationals were named finalists for the Louisville Slugger Silver Team Award. It would be the first time Washington wins this award.
The starting shortstop for the 2026 National League All-Star team, Abrams, led National League shortstops in home runs (33), extra-base hits (67) and RBI (106). He also ranked second in slugging percentage (.497), OPS (.833), wOBA (.358) and wRC+ (124).
The Alpharetta, Ga., native became the third shortstop in Major League history to record at least 30 home runs, 30 stolen bases and 100 RBI, joining Bobby Witt Jr. (2024) and Alex Rodriguez (1998). He was one of two players with at least 30 home runs, 30 stolen bases, 30 doubles and 100 RBI along with Pete Crow-Armstrong, in 2026.
A 2026 National League All-Star, Wood, led National League outfielders in walks (102) and on-base percentage (.388) despite missing 27 games on the Injured List. He also ranked second in home runs (30), runs (106), OPS (.891), slugging percentage (.503), wOBA (.383) and wRC+ (142). He was named National League Player of the Week on April 13 and July 13 and was Washington’s Player of the Year as voted on by the D.C. media.
The Rockville, Md., native became the first player in Major League history to hit 30 home runs, steal 20 bases and walk 100 times while playing in less than 140 games in a season. He was one of five players to finish with 30 home runs and 20 stolen bases in Major League Baseball this season.
Washington’s offense led Major League Baseball with 522 extra-base hits, ranked third in runs scored (821), RBI (777), slugging percentage (.423) and OPS (.743) and sixth with 210 home runs. The 821 runs scored stand as the second-highest total in Nationals history (2005-pres.) behind only the 2019 Nationals (873) and the 210 home runs are third behind the 2019 Nationals (231) and the 2017 Nationals (215).
Washington posted a +6 run differential in 2026 after recording a -212 run differential in 2025. The +218 improvement from last season to this season is second in Major League Baseball behind Colorado (+232 improvement) and is the best season-to-season improvement in Nationals history (2005-pres.), per the Elias Sports Bureau.
Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger Award winners will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 17.
