MIAMI – Saturday served as a perfect reminder of how multigenerational the sport of baseball is.
As part of his final in-game interview of the season, Marlins manager Clayton McCullough received a surprise before signing off from the dugout in the bottom of the third inning.
Marlins.TV broadcaster Kyle Sielaff asked for the second-year skipper to turn around and look into the monitor to greet three of his biggest fans who had hard-hitting questions: his three children Kyle, Carson and Quinn.
“I’m Kyle,” he began, initially going along with the schtick, eliciting giggles from the booth and dugout. “Hi, Dad. This is a two-part question: No. 1, what was your favorite moment of this season?”
McCullough quickly chose Xavier Edwards’ heads-up game-ending double play against the Dodgers on April 29 in Los Angeles.
“Part 2,” Kyle continued. “What are you most looking forward to doing with us this offseason?”
Like anyone in baseball can attest, there is more time spent away from family and friends than together during the season.
McCullough answered that he planned on taking them to school, picking Kyle up from baseball practice as well as attending Quinn’s soccer games and Carson’s cheerleading events.
With the inning coming to a close, the natural Kyle received a “good job” from longtime broadcaster Tommy Hutton and high fives to go around.
