This fan's glove is BIG ... and he caught a HR!

Hicks' leadoff blast in 5th gets snagged with gigantic leather in Cleveland

April 25th, 2021

You’re never too old to bring a glove to the ballpark -- and apparently, there’s no limitation on the size of the glove, either.

In the fifth inning of Saturday’s Yankees-Indians game at Progressive Field, one fan -- 34-year-old Greg Niemojewski -- flashed some cartoonishly large leather to catch a leadoff home run off the bat of New York's Aaron Hicks. Niemojewski used every inch of his mitt, extending his left arm and jumping slightly to make the catch in right-center field.

We don’t have the catch probability on the play, but with a 23-inch glove (nearly twice the size of an average one), it was probably quite high.

Hicks, who has now homered in two consecutive games, is probably just glad the ball didn't land in one of the mitts of a Cleveland defender in the field of play.

Niemojewski nearly had an opportunity for another snag with his gigantic glove later in the inning, as Rougned Odor's two-out solo homer went over his head and into the bullpen area. His glove, which he bought prior to the 2019 Home Run Derby in Cleveland, wasn't quite big enough to grab that one.

However, Niemojewski still ended up with that ball, too, as he played it off a bounce and recovered it from the ground. He estimates his trusty, gigantic mitt has now helped him snag more than 20 baseballs.
