Frazier sacrifices shades on slick diving snag

'They're not Oakleys. They're broke-leys now'

's new trademark is the full-extension diving grab. To complete his latest masterpiece, the Yankees' outfielder had to sacrifice a pair of cool shades.

Frazier ranged 55 feet toward the right-field line in pursuit of Trey Mancini's sinking liner in the seventh inning on Sunday at Oriole Park, landing on his chest while snaring the ball in the webbing of his glove. Frazier also homered and singled, scoring two runs in the Yanks' 10-6 loss to the Orioles.

"I think that was my best catch so far," Frazier said. "I think people think that I dive for some balls that I don't have to. That one, we can all agree that I needed to dive for it."

Yankees reliever Wandy Peralta raised his left fist in appreciation of the grab, which marked the only time Mancini was retired in the contest. As Frazier made the catch, his sunglasses popped off and were crushed under his body.

"They're not Oakleys. They're broke-leys now," Frazier said.

Frazier tossed the ball back to the infield, performing some housekeeping on the grass by stuffing the shattered plastic into his back pocket.

"It was a great play," manager Aaron Boone said. "I told him I had a perfect angle of the ball slicing away and him in my peripheral closing in on it; I didn't think he was going to be able to get there. He needed every bit of that layout. It was a really, really good play in that spot."

The highlight-reel catch was at least the third that Frazier has made this season. He robbed the Indians' Jordan Luplow of an extra-base hit on April 25 at Cleveland, then made -- in Boone's opinion -- an even more impressive grab on May 7 at Yankee Stadium, stealing a knock from the Nationals' Josh Harrison.
