Rockies interviewing external candidates for head of baseball operations (report)

October 14th, 2025

The Rockies have interviewed at least three candidates to be their next head of baseball operations, according to a report Tuesday from The Athletic.

Those three candidates are Blue Jays vice president of baseball strategy (and former Astros general manager) James Click, Royals senior vice president and assistant GM Scott Sharp and Guardians executive VP and assistant GM Matt Forman.

The Rockies haven't confirmed the report.

Colorado GM Bill Schmidt, who had held the role since 2021, stepped down at the beginning of October. Schmidt had been with the Rockies organization since 1999.

When Schmidt and the team parted ways, the Rockies announced they were beginning an "external search" for a new head of baseball operations.

The three candidates reported by The Athletic are all from outside the organization.

Click is the only one of those three with previous Major League GM experience, having served as the Astros' GM from 2020-22 before joining Toronto. Sharp has been in his current role in Kansas City for the last three seasons but has served in various assistant GM roles for the Royals since 2015. Forman first became an assistant GM in Cleveland in 2016.
